Collaboration Brings Discounted Ordnance Survey Mapping Data to Public Sector

Date Issued: 23 December 2008

Ref.  ODS28/11

An innovative collaborative project will make a wide range of Ordnance Survey mapping data available to the public sector at a substantially discounted price.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement has been made between OGCbuying.solutions and Ordnance Survey and covers a wide range of mapping data available from Ordnance Survey via a tiered discount structure offering renewal agreements and new purchases.

This will complement existing Collective Purchase Agreements by providing a purchase method for products that currently sit outside of these Agreements and as a mechanism for non members to purchase data direct.

John Kimmance, from Ordnance Survey, said today "We are delighted to have made this agreement with OGCbuying.solutions.

It provides the public sector with greater access to geographic data which is increasingly being seen as a valuable tool in informing and implementing policy in both central and local government."

Charlotte Clarke, Category Specialist at Buying Solutions commented on the agreement, "This is great news for our customers; after successful negotiations with Ordnance Survey we can now offer savings to organisations that use mapping data in their every day working environment. The demand for Mapping Data is growing and is already used widely throughout the public sector. This is a good example of two public sector organisations working collaboratively to achieve better deals”.

The new agreement came into effect on 3 November 2008 with the potential to re-new after the first year.

Buying Solutions also offers a Geographical Information Services framework agreement offering a range of mapping solutions. To register an interest, or for more information, please contact the Buying Solutions Service Desk on 0845 410 2222, or via email custcare@ogcbs.gsi.gov.uk
