Furniture - RM440
Our original furniture framework agreement was hugely successful and this arrangement has been designed to build on this strong foundation, making the purchasing of furniture even simpler, more sustainable and cost effective.
The framework commenced on 1 October 2008 and expires 30 September 2012. The framework has been developed as part of a collaborative effort and is the largest arrangement of its kind in Europe with a projected value of £300m over the four year period.
We received a considerable level of input from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) who provided documentation and allocated key personnel to assist with the evaluation of PQQ and ITT responses and also benefitted from input from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the Environment Agency and HM Revenue & Customs who provided assistance with the development of assessment criteria within the ITT.
Additionally, Department for Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Department for Transport (DFT), Home Office, Lancashire County Council, the Scottish Executive and the Highways Agency have all provided commentary on draft documentation through to final sign off.
The framework is divided into specific lots to bring clarity and the number of suppliers has been reduced to ease the further competition process.
NOTE:
Government Procurement Service has removed Metalrax Storage from the RM440 Furniture framework with immediate effect, following the recent sale of the company.

Some key features of the framework agreement include:
- Improved product range (suppliers and supply partners)
- New suppliers with a range of products and services
- The number of providers has been reduced and divided into lots to ease the further competition process.
- “Sustainability” was one of the key drivers of the procurement. This included gaining suppliers’ formal commitment to minimising the negative impact of their operations on the environment and human health, as evidenced by an environmental statement and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, an environmental management system to conform to the ISO 14001 standard, full compliance with the UK Government Timber Policy to provide timber products which derive from legal and sustainable sources and use of an environmentally responsible disposal route for redundant furniture.
- Improved Management Information
